Cook County Sheriff Douglas G. Hanks
Sheriff Douglas G. Hanks was raised in Cook County, Georgia. He attended Cook County schools, graduating from Cook High School in 1976. He owns and operates a small business which he has done for 30 years plus: is a volunteer Fireman with the City of Adel for 5 years: Georgia P.O.S.T. certified for 18 years: employed by the City of Adel Police Department for 18 years plus with 16 years as Shift Commander until being elected Sheriff in November 2012.

Sheriff Hanks is an active member of Adel Masonic Lodge #310, Hasan Shrine Temple and the Police Benevolent Association. As time permits, he tries to attend various functions of many organizations throughout the County. He was awarded the 2003-2004 Exchange Club Peace Officer of the Year and the 2009 Adel Police Department Officer of the Year.

Sheriff Hanks has been married to Anna Barbara Hanks (formerly Duren) for 26 years. Together they have one daughter and a son-in-law, Gary and Brittany Rowan and one son, Dylan Hanks
